Hi! My name is Jennifer Bertrand. I just completed my PhD researching digital user interactions from a neuroscience + kinesiology perspective.

I’m currently available for consulting engagements and full-time opportunities.

When the pandemic hit, I traded in the lab gear (like EEG, motion-capture + eye-tracking) for remote-friendly methods like webcam eye-tracking + cursor-tracking.

Since then, I have spent the past 3 years learning how to design, build, and run powerful online studies that still pack a (rigorous) punch.

My shift to online methods offered an opportunity to intern with Labvanced, an online experimentation platform. I’ve spent the last year as a doctoral research scientist.

As part of my internship, I also applied my webcam eye-tracking expertise to the development of Labvanced’s new sister product, PageGazer - an eye-tracking UX research tool (to be released in 2023).

Research Areas

  • My expertise centers on quantitative approaches like cursor-tracking and eye-tracking to explore the dynamics of human behaviour and cognition.

  • I’ve developed an expertise in designing and building complex online experiments. Currently, I’m writing a ‘best practices’ methods publication about remote webcam eye-tracking for online experimenters.

Check out this Late To Lab podcast episode where I discuss the challenges of online experimentation.

  • EEG, motion-capture, and eye-tracking have offered dense, rich, time-series data to deeply explore basic science questions about the brain and behaviour.

Get in touch :)

I love chatting about research - experimental design, methods, analyses - especially for digital user interactions! I also consult on visual communications (scientific + data visualizations, and pitch + slide decks).

Please don’t hesitate to connect below, or via email (jenniferkbertrand[at]gmail.com) or LinkedIn - I’d love to chat!
